Hey there Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Victoria Hines and I am a English Major/Communication Minor at Cornell University. This summer will be my first as a Style Guru as well as my first traveling outside of the country! In my column, STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK, I will be bringing you styling tips as inspired by people spotted in my home of California to people spotted in my adventures around Seoul, South Korea. It’s going to be a summer to remember, and I intend for my advice to be just as unforgettable as my experience abroad!
The basis of my interest in fashion lies in the ability of people to beautifully express who they are through the medium of clothing and accessories. I admire those who can take a trend and manipulate it so that it adapts to their own personal style seamlessly. In my column, I hope to give style advice that encourages self expression as I cover the different ways a trend can be relevant to all of you unique and diverse Fashionistas/os.
Over the past couple years, my personal style has constantly been evolving, and right now, I’ll say it is leaning towards a more edgy vibe. My color palette rarely ventures away from black—I have been into the chic simplicity that a black monochromatic look evokes. I have one too many pairs of black boots (just boots in general actually). The white 3-eye Dr. Martens I am pictured wearing above happen to be one of the only non-black pairs I own, and I am obsessed with them! They look particularly good with loose dresses as well as jeans and they will definitely be a stable in my wardrobe this summer. I hope to incorporate more girly pieces into my look this season to complement my edgier style and the warmer weather – I’m going after dresses that look great with a leather jacket and strapped heeled sandals that give a sexy feel to distressed boyfriend jeans.
It is going to be a fun time sharing more of my fashion insight with you in the weeks to come! I am thrilled to now be apart of the fabulousness that is CollegeFashionista, and I hope my advice will be useful to you and encouraging towards your personal style and self expression. Look forward to my posts from South Korea! One of the primary reasons I decided to travel there is because of my admiration of Korean street style. It is fresh, completely different from anything in the States and I can’t wait to introduce it to you!
