STYLE GURU BIO: Veronica Quesenberry

Hi, everyone! I’m Veronica Quesenberry, a third-year journalism student at the University of Florida. I’m a transfer student, so it’s my first year at UF, and it’s my first semester as a Style Guru. Let me tell you a little bit more about myself.

Fashion has always been important to me because it’s forever been an extension of myself. I’ve also found fashion to be an expression of society during a certain time. Fashion is dear to me because it can represent so many different people and so many different eras, and by doing so it brings everyone and everything together throughout time.

My obsession with fashion began at a young age. I can recall as early as elementary school staring at the glossy pages of Vogue, reading all the articles even when I didn’t understand all the words. At first, I thought I wanted to be the subject of the articles I was reading, so I started designing clothes and watching Project Runway. But as I started developing my writing skills, I realized that I wanted to be the one writing and highlighting the best of the fashion world. My goal as a fashion journalist is to conquer the fashion industry and ultimately become the editor of my own fashion magazine.

Today, I would categorize my style as timeless and eccentric. Typically, I wear what I want when I want, disregarding traditional fashion rules and seasons. I like to try new styles and trends while incorporating classic patterns and silhouettes to create a lasting look. If you peeked into my closet you’d immediately see a tremendous amount of sequin, pleather, faux fur and pieces I’ve stolen from my parents.

My parents’ closets are goldmines for vintage pieces from the 1980s and ’90s, which indulges my love for fashion through the ages. Time and pop culture are two of my favorite topics. Just seeing how timing and trends affect society and how they’re encapsulated in fashion fascinates me. Knowing that there is around 100 years of modern fashion to work with, I could sport a different decade every day of the week.

I draw much of my style inspiration from other aspects of my life. I’m vegan, so I make a conscious effort to ensure that I’m not exploiting any animals by what I wear or the products I use. I love entertainment, and my favorite genre in any area of entertainment is indie/alternative, which inspires most of my unorthodox styling. I’m a sucker for anything magical, whether that means reading horoscopes or performing a card trick. So, I make sure that in every outfit I wear I add a little magic and a lot of sparkle.

I am so happy that I am working with CollegeFashionista, and I cannot wait to see what this semester has in store. Until next time, feel free to connect with me via the social media links in my profile.
