My name is Vanessa Monson and I am currently in my senior year at Columbia College Chicago, majoring in Marketing Communication. Not only do I have the privilege of calling Chicago my hometown, but this semester I’ll be trekking across the globe and shining the spotlight on European fashion while I study abroad at University of East London in London, England.
I first became interested in fashion after flipping through glossy magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue starting at an early age. After packing up and moving to downtown Chicago, I had the opportunity to intern at Allure, which continued to spark my interest in fashion and truly pushed me towards working within the fashion industry. I live and breathe fashion, which in my opinion is an amazing thing. If you love what you do, you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
I’m always inspired by European fashion, specifically chic and simplistic French style. Let’s just say my color palette includes an extensive amount of neutrals, which transitions well into any city you may be visiting, living or exploring. I’m always one to mix high and low fashion and Zara is, quite frankly, my home away from home. I’m inspired by the way fashion is so versatile yet so different in every city across the globe. After having lived in Chicago, Los Angeles, Prague, Paris and now London, I’ve been able to experience this firsthand!
Some of my favorite Fashionistas include Emmanuelle Alt, Garance Dore, Giovanna Battaglia and Geraldine Saglio. All of these women manage to look effortless any day of the week no matter what city they’re popping up in.
I can’t wait to spotlight all the current trends while I’m living in London and I hope you enjoy learning with me!
