STYLE GURU BIO: Ulylisa Maldonado

Let me start off by saying man, do I have some large shoes to fill! I am already feeling so inspired by all my fellow Style Gurus, and I am excited to dive into this new venture at CollegeFashionista!

So without further ado, my name is Ulylisa Maldonado, and I am a senior fashion merchandising student at California State University Long Beach. Currently, I am employed at a second-hand thrift store called Plato’s Closet. I will admit that this feeds my small shopping problem. However, I also have a compulsive need to clean out my closet frequently, so is it really a problem?

Fashion has been an interest of mine since my early days. As a child, I enjoyed playing dress up with my dolls. As I grew older, I waited anxiously each month for the latest issue of Teen Vogue to hit my mailbox so that I could devour the latest trends, designers and celebrity looks. Today, I am seeking experience in the fashion industry through whatever channel I can access. Throughout my college career I have been involved with fashion-centered organizations, worked in retail and even produced a full-scale fashion show along with a team of other students!

My favorite aspect of fashion is the creative outlet it provides and the amount of opportunities one has within the industry. Fashion allows for the chance to be part of an exhilarating environment. I love that fashion trends tend to come back with modern twists, but there will also always be timeless classics.

Personally, my style is eclectic and definitely depends on how I’m feeling that day, but the bohemian look definitely is one I tend to gravitate towards. Stripes and floral print never go out of style in my wardrobe as well. Things that I am also passionate about: mac ‘n’ cheese, scenic adventures, laughing and COFFEE.

I am running out of things to say about myself, but I will say that I am beyond stoked to start learning a style trick or two from my fellow Fashionista/os. Here’s to a stylish semester!
