STYLE GURU BIO: Timothy Hafke

Hi, I’m Tim. I’m an embracer and advocate of questionable fashion taste, a maximalist enthusiast and a skeptic of the athleisure movement. My mission at CollegeFashionista is to compel my fellow Fashionistas/os to question what personal style really means: how do the clothes that you wear define the person that you are? For me, it’s a swirling combination of intricate prints, bold colors and an array of textiles all assembled into one look. I’m a firm believer that you can never wear too many stripes and I’m in a long-term relationship with my boyfriend, coffee.

With a year and a half stint studying fashion design, accompanied with a concentration in product development, I approach the fashion industry with much uncertainty when it comes to what I’ll be doing after my four years at Marist. However, writing has always been a passion of mine and the endless opportunities to break the barriers of men’s fashion has always intrigued me. Why don’t we see more men wearing chokers? Or men getting French pedicures? Nonexistent!

More men should feel comfortable crossing the boundary between men’s and women’s fashion. After all, the ladies have borrowed jeans, pants, suits and countless other silhouettes overtime time, leading to women having an abundance of options when concerning what to wear for brunch, dinner dates, etc., leaving us men imprisoned in the limited options of our own closets! (What bottoms should I wear, short or pants or… that’s it). I’m not saying that men should be parading down the streets in crop tops and heels, (but if you feel comfortable enough in your own skin to do so, more power to you!), but I truly believe that our society’s gender standards have taken the fun out of fashion. So I say, lets put aside our judgmental tendencies and bring the fun back to fashion!
