STYLE GURU BIO: Tiffany Ma

Hello! My name is Tiffany Ma and this is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista. I am a junior at Georgia State University studying communication-journalism with a concentration in public relations, and a minor in marketing. It’s quite a bit, but I absolutely adore it. I pride myself on being organized and constantly writing everything down. I’ve recently started working as a wedding planner’s assistant, and it’s absolutely a dream to help create a beautiful celebration.

As a self-diagnosed social media addict, I’m usually always on some form of media, whether it be via phone, laptop, or tablet. If I’m not on Instagram, then I’ll be on Facebook. If I’m not watching a movie or documentary*, I’ll be watching a TV series (currently binge watching House M.D. and Goblin, a Korean drama). My other interests include photography, art, reading, and anything food, whether it be eating or cooking.

My interest in fashion develop when I was a junior in high school. By then I had decided to become a fashion designer (that obviously didn’t work out). My inspiration first derived from fashion bloggers, then Youtube, then Instagram. Dasha Kim (@dahyeshka), Zoe Suen (@zosuen), and Kristen Lam (@kristengracelam) are all people that I look up to, all faces that I can relate to. Being Chinese-Korean, I grew up often wanting to be someone that I couldn’t be because I didn’t see girls that looked like me on billboards or in movies. I’m a very strong advocate for more Asian men and women in the entertainment industry, whether it be in front of the camera or behind.

My style is minimal and cozy, clothes that make me feel comfortable. A coat is easy to slip on and allows one to look put together, even when wearing joggers. Think “masculine” (not that I believe in gender rules for fashion), and you’ve got yourself a beautiful coat. I’ve recently become a sneakerhead rookie, so if I don’t have my beloved Stan Smiths on my feet, then most likely I’ll have on my Old Skool Vans (the only style of Vans that I like). Throughout last semester, if I had pulled an all-nighter or I was just feeling extremely worn out, I would wear these glasses.  Fun fact: they’re not prescription. Fun fact: I wear contacts with them. These glasses were like a mask, especially if I looked particularly tired or if I didn’t put on any makeup. They allowed me to feel more put together, like I was prepared for my classes. They’re also just really cute, so I definitely recommend thin-wired glasses, even if you don’t need them.

This new year is about taking risks and becoming bolder in what I want and believe in, from social issues to career choices. I can’t wait to see what 2017 holds, so here’s to more adventures and memories.
