STYLE GURU BIO: Theresa Maloco

My name is Theresa Maloco and for the past year and a half I have been attending Nassau Community College. This all changed last week when I received a packet from somewhere close to heaven. That packet was an acceptance letter from Fashion Institute of Technology saying that I was admitted to their Fashion Merchandising Management program! I can officially call myself a FIT student.

My first experience with fashion was when I picked out my first outfit in third grade. I was a quiet little girl and picking out my outfits was a way for me to express my personality. I can remember my very first creation vividly. I wore a brown Hawaiian dress with pink coconut trees on it along with pink and brown striped leggings. To complete the look, I paired it with cowboy boots. I remember all the stares I received from other students and teachers. I loved every bit of it. Ever since then, I was known as “that girl” that came up with crazy outfits.

As I grow older, my outfits are becoming much more daring and sophisticated. I like to wear heels as casual wear and occasionally, I will put something together that actually matches but matching can be boring. If I had to describe my style in one word, it would be eccentric, just like my personality. My daily outfits vary upon how I feel when I get out of bed. To me, having one style is like going about your day without showing any emotion. There are days when I wake up feeling like Jennifer Lopez so I put on my “ghetto fab” outfits. Sometimes, there will be days when I feel bohemian or maybe even feel like mixing two styles together, because why not? My style is anything but boring and I have to thank living in Queens, New York for that. Living in Queens with so much diversity has inspired me to be open-minded and experiment with certain fashion pieces. I believe that taking risks.

You can get my look with a pair of cargo pants, a charcoal gray sweater and yellow heels.

I am very excited to be part of CollegeFashionista this summer! I promise to pick out the best outfits I can find in the streets of New York. Make sure you follow me on all my social media accounts so we can be on this journey together. Let’s do this!
