STYLE GURU BIO: Tess Dempsey

My name is Tess. I was born and raised in Upstate New York, but have spent the last three years in the fascinating urban city of Richmond, Virginia attending Virginia Commonwealth University. Though I am majoring in Business Marketing, my passion lies within fashion. The styles among the streets of Richmond have inspired me in so many ways.

I strive to show my personality through any outlet possible but my personal style seems to be it’s best display. I believe that style is more than just a piece of clothing or pair of shoes. Style gives you the chance to tell your story without having to open those Kylie-Lip-Kit perfected lips. My knack for fashion started with my online blog, Better Late Than Uglee, and I only hope that it continues to grow through this amazing College Fashionista opportunity.

I would describe my look as “boho-glam.” I love to mix and match hippie styles with glossy accessories—Vanessa Hudgens meets Ke$ha per say. I hold accessories accountable for perfecting a look, whether it be shoes, jewelry or a spunky hat. There’s a long list of celebrities I love to outfit-stalk, but my most recent Instagram searches include Rachel Zoe, Kourtney Kardashian and Kristin Cavallari. These gals really know how to make a girl green with envy.

To me, looking good makes me feel good and with that mix comes an overall better outlook on life. Like a friendly smile, fashion can change a mood or brighten a day—haven’t you ever heard of retail therapy?! Surrender to the seduction of those dreamy shoes calling your name or the whispers from that whimsical dress—even if it means you might be a little late on your rent!

Like myself, I hope you all fall victim to Virginia Commonwealth University’s fashion influence.
