WOW. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I’m so excited! I’m currently studying Nursing with a minor in Spanish at a university in one of the most amazing cities in the world, San Francisco. Although it is only seven by seven miles big, there is so much vivacity and culture packed into the city, not to mention, a wide range of styles. The clash between Haight x Ashbury, the bourgeois tailored-suits of the Financial District mixed with the quaintness of the Marina District constantly gives me the opportunity to see so many different styles and fashion trends.
I grew up in Huntington Beach, of Orange County in Southern California…thus, my style is a little mix between beach boho, the streets of Los Angeles, and newly, the city of San Francisco. My personal style, at times, seems to be all over the place. It really just depends on my mood. However, every Fashionista should have the basics. I am firm believer in that less is more and there is nothing more stylish than the simple. I cannot emphasize how perfect are a pair of black denim jeans. I’m always obsessed with the classic gold watch and gold Ray-Ban aviators, and nothing is more classic than an LBD (which I have way too many of). However, my favorite trends right now are the bold lips, anything tight and mesh, camo, mint, taupe and leather pants.
Some of my style icons include Nicole Richie, Rihanna, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, other online fashion bloggers (Song of Style, Tuula Vintage, Haute Pursuit, Oracle Fox), and naturally, my mother, (her style is unbeatable). I draw inspiration from everywhere. I believe that style is a way of personal expression and should not have limits. Style should not be bound by labels or trends. In the words of Yves Saint Laurent, “Fashions fade, but Style is eternal.”
