My name is Tala Odeh. I am a rising senior at American University and I am so beyond excited to be starting with CollegeFashionista for another semester! I’ve learned a lot while writing for the menswear column LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS, and I am eager to take on a new challenge— one that allows me to lust over jewelry, bags, scarves and more!
In case it isn’t obvious, I’m blogging weekly for the ACCESSORIES REPORT column at AU. I work in a local DC jewelry boutique and have a not-so-secretive obsession with costume jewelry and accessories. My true passion for style and fashion lies in the depths of jewelry boxes or up in my grandmothers attic where scarves and hats are buried amongst other hidden gems.
If it shines, sparkles, is studded or covered in snakeskin, I have a tendency to over indulge. Accessorizing is all about being meticulous, because as a very wise professor once told me, “The devil is always in the details.” Be it a designer splurge or a vintage steal, I believe that the right accessories can bring any outfit to life. However, in order to ensure that these ornaments make an outfit— and not break it— let’s take a look into some fall/winter trends this semester.
As the weather gets cooler and assignments get harder, feel free to express yourself in anything animal print, emerald or gold. Much like the wrist bling I’m wearing in the featured photo, stock up on stackables and let the gold summer trend melt into autumn. Statement seasonal pieces, like this Alexander McQueen scarf or acid-stained denim and cotton jacket, can really stand out and set the stage for a simple, weatherproof outfit. My studded lace Zara espadrilles are a personal favorite and very reflective of my taste— urban-chic.
So in order to keep up with all that is street chic and budget friendly, follow my weekly accessories reports and see what influences students from nation’s capital took from the runway to the hallway.
