STYLE GURU BIO: Sydney Woolery

Hello everyone! My name is Sydney Woolery, and this is my very first semester at CollegeFashionista. As an avid lover of fashion, I couldn’t be more excited for this internship and the fabulous journey that lays ahead.

I was born and raised on the California coast in the small surf town of Santa Cruz, and I am now residing in sunny Los Angeles. I’m just about to finish my junior year at the University of California, Los Angeles (where has the time gone?) I couldn’t be happier about going to school in a city as lively and exciting as L.A. Whether it’s Santa Cruz or Los Angeles, my heart will always be on the Golden Coast.

I have always been a fashion girl at heart. I can still fondly recall the days when I was a young, wide-eyed girl flipping through the glossy pages of Vogue in awe of what was staring back at me. The fabulous clothing, the gorgeous models and the beautifully crafted editorials—you get the idea. As the years progressed, I became more comfortable in expressing myself through the clothing I wore and began developing an eye toward my personal style. Today, fashion is by far my favorite creative outlet, and I am a firm believer in the practice of dressing up for no reason other than simply wanting to. To quote the fabulous Dita Von Teese on this subject, “Why do we have to have a reason to dress up, or be glamorous? I hate it when people ask me why. I mean…why not?”

When it comes to my personal style, I’m really all over the place. A lot of my style derives from whatever my current source of inspiration is, which often includes outlets such as films, celebrities, fellow fashion bloggers, travel and so on. Regardless of what my current aesthetic is, I always aim to assemble my outfits in a sleek, polished and chic manner. At the moment, I’m obsessed with the boho, ’70s trend that still seems to be on the rise. The Chloé spring 2015 show will forever be my favorite collection. I aimed to convey this in the outfit above, with my floppy wool hat being a staple in practically all of my outfits, and my breezy Target printed maxi dress serving as a bohemian base. Chic details such as nude ankle strap heels and a tan Michael Kors handbag ultimately help polish off the look.

Fashion all starts off with inspiration. I’m inspired every day by what I see, and I hope that my position as a Style Guru can inspire others as well. Here’s to a rad summer!
