I’m Sydney Spaulding. This will be my third semester presenting my readers with a little STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m a Journalism major with a minor in Apparel Merchandising at the best school in the Big Ten: Indiana University!
I am not one of those girls who knew from an early age that they wanted to work with fashion. I have always loved clothes, but it wasn’t until I got to school as a freshman that I began to take an interest in high fashion and the industry as a whole. After taking magazine-related classes through the journalism school, I now have a focus in magazine writing. With my writing and fashion background, I would love to write for a magazine such as Vogue or be the next Rachel Zoe, but, for now, CollegeFashionista is my perfect outlet.
As far as my style goes, I am a very casual dresser. Lauren Conrad has always been one of my main style icons because of her clean and classy wardrobe. I love dresses when it’s warm, but in the winter my go-to is dark skinny jeans, my leather jacket and a pair of boots. Add a little red lipstick to that and I’m ready to take on the world. I find that it’s always more flattering to be subtle, but chic.
At IU, I am surrounded by some of the most diverse, unique and fascinating people in the world. I learn more about fashion everyday by the people I see just walking to class from week to week. I can thank coming to college and getting out of my small town for opening my eyes to what is out there, and what different things each person has to offer. I am eager to give you a taste of some Midwest style, and what makes this school one big runway!
