STYLE GURU BIO: Sydney Haymond

Hey y’all! My name is Sydney Haymond and I am a sophomore at the University of Georgia majoring in both Fashion Merchandising and Magazine Journalism. Even though I’ve spent most of my life in Georgia, I wouldn’t call myself a native. I’ve lived everywhere, from my birthplace of Chicago to the beaches of Charleston. I’ve traveled to Australia, England, Ireland and many more places, but my favorite place to be is still New York City. I’m definitely a Southern girl living with an Empire State of Mind.

I would like to say that fashion has been my passion ever since I was a little girl, but that is not the case. I made some pretty questionable style choices in my younger days (denim mini skirt and legwarmers anyone?). I truly started loving fashion once I realized the powers behind a killer outfit. It felt amazing to take risks and get noticed for my style. Fashion has been an instrumental part in shaping who I am today by giving me self-confidence and the courage to take chances.

Being a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista gives me the opportunity to live out my dream of writing about my favorite topic: fashion! I am so excited to begin! Hopefully when I become the next editor-in-chief of Vogue (a girl can dream right?), you will all remember me in my naïve college days. I have learned that being true to yourself is the key to success, and as one of my favorite stylists Rachel Zoe said, “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” So remember, no matter what you wear, you will always look amazing if you feel amazing.

In this outfit, I experimented with a new trend by keeping the rest of the outfit simple. That’s right! The denim skirt is back and much better than the mini skirts of our middle school days. The denim skirt I chose adds a vintage vibe to an otherwise casual outfit, especially with the button detail down the front. A basic gray T-shirt becomes figure flattering when tied in a knot to the side. A black floppy hat and gold booties keep the outfit cool. And don’t forget accessories! Keep it simple with a beaded choker and make sure to pile on the rings! This is the perfect outfit for lunch with the girls or a casual date night!
