I am always looking for different ways to twist current trends—oftentimes, I draw influences from womenswear in an attempt to make my own outfit pop. Especially in my hometown, Cincinnati, it is rather rare to see a man in leggings. But frankly, I can’t get enough of them, such as this pair from Zara. I love the little details, such as the notches in the ankles, and the stripes down the side of the legs. And not to mention, they are one of the most comfortable pieces I own!

Another go-to when I dress myself in the mornings is pieces from friends. Rarely do I actually ask to borrow something—clothes and accessories always seem to end up lying around in my room, with no real explanation as to how they got there. The hat, for example, is a dear friend’s. I love how the color works with the shirt—which incidentally does not belong to me either! Tying a shirt at the waist is one of my favorite tricks when getting dressed. It accentuates the waistline, adds an interesting aspect to the silhouette and allows a convenient extra layer if a hot day turns into a cool evening.

To complete the urban vibe of the look, I chose a black sleeveless T-shirt from Urban Outfitters, and a pair of black slip-ons from Zara. I think that a good pair of black slip-ons is completely indispensable in any respectable wardrobe. They’re easy to put on when running out the door to class, and are versatile when it comes to both formality and season—they are equally as appropriate for a day at the park in the summer as they are for a party in the middle of the winter.
