My name is Stephanie Melnick and I am a current sophomore at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where I major in fashion merchandising and minor in business. I have been interested in fashion since I was a little girl, always wearing the most fashionable, and sometimes outrageous, outfits and accessories to school. When I graduate, I hope to work in the visual merchandising or buying area of the fashion industry for an accessory company.
I was always the girl in high school with the outrageous headbands and best jewelry. Anything Blair Waldorf inspired fit my personality perfectly! I draw my inspiration from the streets, magazines and celebrity icons like Blake Lively and Carrie Underwood. My favorite handbag designer is Michael Kors and my favorite accessory trend currently is big, statement necklaces and the infamous arm party. My love for accessories has led me to work in retail at an accessory store called Charming Charlie. Let’s just say leaving the store without something in my hand is a hard act to accomplish after a long day of work. The experience I have gained while working for Charming Charlie only increased my love for accessories and my passion for visual merchandising.
My experience thus far working in the fashion industry has been nothing but exciting and rewarding. Choosing to attend Marist was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have received so many opportunities to work New York Fashion Week, trade shows and will hopefully be living in Manhattan and interning with a fashion company next fall. I cannot wait to see what else Marist and the fashion industry have in store for me over the next two years. Make sure you check out my Accessory Reports every Friday for all the latest trends and styles!
