STYLE GURU BIO: Stephanie Lagunes

Ciao! My name is Stephanie Lagunes and I was born and raised in New York City. I’m a third-year student at Rutgers University studying journalism and fine arts. The fast pace and diversity of growing up in the city has definitely influenced the person I am today and how I interpret my own, and others’, personal style.

For a long time, fashion was never my forte. As a former tomboy, I opted for anything that was comfortable and didn’t look like I picked it out in the dark. Today, I still incorporate comfortable pieces but with refinement. I wouldn’t be able to label my style with one word but I do opt for comfort while looking put together. Some rules of thumb I follow: dress up or dress down the main focus of your ensemble, accessorize where you want to draw attention and always add lipstick. For example, my Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans would be the main focus and the black crochet crop top was the ornate factor the outfit needed to pop. My all-time favorite accessory is my Dooney & Bourke domed satchel which can hold just about anything you can imagine and makes any outfit cohesive.

Fashion was never an industry I could see myself having a career in. I pursued medicine up until college and was a science and math student. Exploring the arts realm and public relations of fashion proved to me that there are endless opportunities in pursuing something I loved. I enjoy people watching on campus, and in New York, because style can be inspiring. We all know, one outfit has the power to make you feel anything is possible. Rihanna and Kanye West’s styles are some I can relate to. They are always looking comfortable yet polished and it looks so effortless. Anything that looks minimal yet captivating is my style.

I am excited to write for CollegeFashionista and I can’t wait to share what I find on campus. This fall I’m excited to see how the color of the year marsala is sported throughout campus and on the big magazines. Be sure to stay tuned for my articles on the first every month.
