Hello there, fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Stephanie Gielarowski and I am a senior (sadly) at University of South Carolina. Between Fashion Board, Chi Omega, Dance Marathon and studying International Business, Marketing and Spanish (if you ask me where my free time is my answer is I am still looking for it), I will be spending my time finding all of you trendy Fashionistas/os to cover the WHAT TO WEAR column each week! I couldn’t be more excited to get started but before I find out about all of the amazing Fashionistas/os on campus, let me tell you a little about myself!
Though I go to school in the South, I was born and raised up north in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A township back in the ‘Burgh is where my passion for fashion began. The obsession didn’t come from street style or from the research on Coco Chanel I did later in life. Rather, it started when I was six-years-old from my one and only fashion role model, my mom, who taught me many lessons. Those lessons included how much is too much concealer, how tight is too tight and which shade of red is just right. Those lessons can be learned by a simple shake of the head, a smile from ear to ear or “Yes, it is a must. We can’t leave the store without it.” For as long as I can remember, my mom has valued her appearance and above all, the confidence she had in herself was key. Learning how to be confident in who you are and owning your style can be your most stylish attribute.
Going off of what my mom taught me, I learned that I didn’t have to be wearing something out of the box (though sometimes everyone has the sudden urge to wear a Lady Gaga-inspired dress). I just had to let what I was wearing reflect my confidence in myself. SO my style includes classic basics with a lot of neutrals and black, but I love to add a little pep in my step with elegant accessories, a vibrant lip color, an amazing purse or a must-have pair of shoes – something along those lines.
A new school year is a start to so many things, including a new Style Guru on campus! So watch out, fellow Gamecocks; I’m coming for all of you! Make sure to be on point with your style and I can’t wait to find you!
