My name is Stephanie Aguilar and this Spring, I’ll be joining the 2013 Style Guru team for CollegeFashionista! I’m so excited to be given this opportunity after reading so many creative posts on this blog. I’m currently a junior at the University of Illinois, where I’m studying News-Editorial Journalism as well as Communication. This will be one of my first experiences blogging, as I will be writing for the Wednesday’s FASHIONISTA SPOTLIGHT section.
As thrilled as I already am with this position, I’m far more excited to be expressing my fashion tastes to readers. Although there isn’t much going on outside of the Champaign-Urbana, I’ve seen quite a number of Fashionistas on campus that have caught my eye. Whether it’s walking to or from class, or hitting up the local Starbucks with friends, I’m a firm believer in dressing up as if you’re going to see your worst enemy.
I like to believe I have a unique style, but that’s not to say that I love just tossing on whatever I find in my closet. This past winter, I’ve been leaning towards bright colors, bringing in a selection of chunky sweatshirts, stylish boots, and a handful of layered scarfs that I can’t ever seem to get enough of! Also, I’m a sucker for shopping bargain deals and for clothes you never would’ve thought would be in the sale section, so be sure to be on the lookout for that. However, sometimes I’ll splurge and think of expensive pieces as a reward for myself every now and then.
My style recommendation for you Fashionistas and Fashionistos out there is to have fun with your style. I used to have a difficult time going out of my comfort zone with daring looks so I stuck to neutrals with jeans, but once I saw how interesting several mismatched pieces looked put together, I was smitten.
As this new semester rolls in, I’ll be on the search for certain Fashionistas that catch my eye as the cold season comes to a close. I’ll be sure to incorporate some of my favorite trends and I’ll also include some of the season’s stylish trends that students can easily shop for.
