STYLE GURU BIO: Sophia Naves

Hey, my name is Sophia and I am a girl in love with art; literally all of it (it’s a little scary). I am currently attending Barry University, in the amazing city of Miami. I was born in Venezuela but I have lived most of my life in Spain.

The first part of my artistic passion started as mostly doodling, which later developed into drawing and painting. The early years of my life are full of this art form (well, honestly my current life is still full of it). After that, music caught my attention and I started piano lessons. Since then, my headphones haven’t left my ears even though I barely play the piano anymore. A few years after, I took singing classes until I realized it wasn’t really my calling. Books have also been a big part of my life. I devour books, no kidding. I always avoid starting books on busy moments like finals, because I literally can’t stop. I’ve read very different kind of books, but lately poetry has been the prominent, especially with the author Rupi Kaur.

Her book Milk and Honey is a refreshing feminist view of the world (and yes, I am a feminist). Reading eventually lead to writing and I joined a writing club where we started a crazy blog full of imaginative stories. In my teenage years, I started getting more and more interested in fashion but also into acting. I joined acting classes and spent hours designing clothes (although, I never tried to design pants, don’t ask me why). My last years of high school, I got very interested in digital art and advertising so I decided to study graphic design, which is what I am majoring in at Barry University.

I have always been a very creative person. I am constantly trying to express myself and clothes have always been a big part of that. One of my favorite compliments is that the clothes you wear reflect your personality. I like to believe that my clothes reflect my artistic side.

Black clothes and culottes are my biggest obsession, which is exactly what I’m wearing in this outfit—a pair of black culottes with a lace white shirt from Zara, a black leather jacket and a pair of black ankle boots. I know that culottes can be a little intense sometimes. However, these types of pants are extremely comfortable, especially for long days in classes and it gives you a very Parisian chic look! I accessorized this look with some gold chain chokers from Urban Outfitters and gave it a pop of color with a pastel pink bag. PS: My favorite color is purple.
