STYLE GURU BIO: Sonya Gande

Hey, everyone! My name is Sonya, and I’m studying computer science at Rutgers University New Brunswick. I’m so excited to be a Style Guru and to share my posts with you all. I love fashion, and I love making clothes; I’ve been creating T-shirts and selling them for over a year now. I also love photography, web design, and programming.

Although I’ve always loved fashion, my interest peaked in high school when I started designing T-shirts. I had to start keeping up with the trends in order to please current and potential customers. Doing this made me really appreciate fashion, and it helped me learn how intricate the fashion industry is and how it is much more than what meets the eye.

Before this year I was always worried about how I would look to others when I wanted to wear specific articles of clothing. I always thought, “I look even shorter in this” or “I’m too short to look normal in this” but now, I know the only person I need to impress with my outfits is myself. If that cardigan is longer on me than it is on most people, I’ll work it. If people think over-the-knee boots look weird on me because I’m short, it doesn’t matter as long as I love it.

I wear my over-the-knee boots all the time, as pictured above. For this look, I’ve encompassed my love for over-the-knee boots with dark jeans, a maroon tank, a plain cardigan, an Alex and Ani bracelet, and a berry lip color that matches my top. I love taking simple essential pieces and dressing them up. My outfit is super cozy and warm and still makes me look super put together!

I’m looking forward to learning more about fashion with this internship and to becoming exposed to a large variety of styles!
