My name is Simedar Jackson and I’m thrilled to begin writing for CollegeFashionista as a Style Guru.
I’m a freshman at Northwestern University studying journalism and an aspiring fashion journalist.
I’ve grown up in Chicago my entire life and even though I’m used to the windy city, I seem to have a problem dressing for the weather. I love the seasonal changes that accompany the fashion but sometimes I can’t resist that summery top in the middle of December. There aren’t many clothes that I can put away once the cold weather rolls in, making storage in my dorm room pretty scant. If it were left up to me, sleeveless would be year-round.
My style constantly evolves, but each phase has specific inspirations. Currently I’ve been pulling ideas from the prominent underground rap/ hip-hop presence in the city and vintage photos. I also really like the urban fashion that was popular in the 80’s, and therefore try to incorporate modernized ideas from this era. Right now, I’m really into beanie hats paired with really cute heels. I’m about 5’11” so most people would think I would avoid heels, but I love them! Shoes are my second weakness and I can’t get enough of them. The largest selection of shoes comes in the form of high heels and what’s better than endless variety?
A vital part of fashion, and my unique style, is staying ahead of the game. I love trying new trends and ideas before they become mainstream because I want to stand out from the crowd. Even though it may not be popular, leaving an impression on somebody is a goal I attain through my clothing.
In the end, looking good is feeling good and I can’t wait to show you all how my school and my city stay fresh.
