STYLE GURU BIO: Sierra Gilmore

Hey Fashionista/os! I am so excited to start working with CollegeFashionista to bring you guys the best fashion advice I can! I know it’s going to be so much fun to share with each other the unique and creative styles we find around us every day. I am just about to start my second semester as a freshman at Florida State University. I’m currently residing in one of the nicest dorms on campus (luckily), centered right in the middle of one of the most stereotypical college towns I’ve ever seen. I am also a retail merchandising and product development major, which is a mouthful that basically just means fashion. I am in the collegiate merchandising association, which emerges its members into the world of fashion and networking. I recently started exploring modeling as I made the fall 2016 women’s editorial and centerfold of Clutch Magazine, FSU’s fashion publication. College has been such a major adjustment full of fantastic experiences, and I can’t wait to share it with you all through my campus’ various styles!

My personal style has definitely changed with the trends throughout the years, but right now I would say I’m taking a liking to ’90s grunge. Of course, the only way to turn a trend into a style is by adding your own twist to the outfit. The flared sleeves of this vintage top added a much needed boho, feel-good vibe to the grunge look. I can’t help but emphasize how obsessed I have been with the comeback of the denim skirt—seriously it has been such a refreshing addition to my wardrobe. My open-toed heels are definitely reflective of the December climate I’m used to in Florida. Obviously I finish out the look with a lace choker from Express and my favorite pearl earrings. I get a nice laugh in every time my younger brother says I look “emo” with a choker on.

This is an example of one of my go-to looks for a day of shopping with friends or an impromptu lunch with my mom when I’m home. I am all about high fashion and always thinking about ways to turn ready-to-wear into “actually ready to wear.” With this kind of passion, dupes and alternatives are quite important in my closet, though I may decide to spoil myself every once in a while! I can’t wait to see other trends this #RAD spring season will bring us. Follow me on my social media to see how I keep up on a college student’s budget!
