Summer heat has taken its reign, runway trends are hitting the streets (have you seen Birkenstocks on any feet recently?) and I am beginning my second semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista. Maybe it is my native Californian roots that are the method behind my madness, but I love the summer months. Saying farewell to spring showers means that I am able to welcome my favorite time of year. Summer is also when I experiment and don outfits that I never would have considered wearing before going to college.
Interning for CollegeFashionista has been such an educational experience. It has pushed me to produce my best writing and to take an even further examination of my peers and the different styles they sport on a day-to-day basis. Before attending Emory, I would have spotted a “trendy” piece and have assumed that the wearer was stylish. However, closer inspection has caused me to realize that style is the way the wearer incorporates the latest trends. Is the outfit straight off a mannequin/runway model or does the wearer create a look all their own?
Last semester I wrote for the ACCESSORIES REPORT. A major aspect of writing for that category was the behind-the-scenes research of various runway shows. This gave me a better picture of the inspiration for upcoming trends as well as inspiration for my day-to-day look. Prior to Emory, my personal style was preppy chic. Now I crave unique designs. Shoes by Sam Edelman are my newest obsession. I still love a refined look (yes, Audrey Hepburn is still my idol), but I do like to incorporate quirky personality pieces into my outfits. After all, my internship last semester taught me that it is all about the little details.
It is my pleasure to write for WHAT TO WEAR this summer. With a new season comes the perk of discovering new Fashionistas with differing senses of style. Who knows, maybe my style will evolve once again after this semester.
