STYLE GURU BIO: Shannon Hines

Hey Style Gurus, Fashionistas and Fashionistos. My name is Shannon Hines and I love creating stylish outfits. I’m studying Marketing to enter into the evolving world of fashion and retail. My love for clothes all started when I was a young doll, watching my grandmother sew dresses, suits, pants and tops for family, friends and clients. One can imagine me continuously piercing my eyes at the needle, as it gyrated up and down into the fabric with thread attached, wondering how it works. All I knew about the machine was that it made a rectangular piece of fabric, wearable.

When I moved to America, my love for clothes started to fade away until three years after I landed in New York. My enjoyment of clothes quickly sprung back when I entered high school. After school, I would take random trips to Seventh Avenue and Fashion Avenue, the fashion district, gaze at the various amounts of fabrics and envision a garment being made. After looking at fabric, my next site was 34th Street, which is filled with tons of retail stores. I was always intrigued by the color-coordinated sections and layout of stores.

Eventually, I decided to poke my head a bit more into fashion and started to do runway shows and photo shoots. There is something about walking the runway, feeling the garments move along with me, cameras flashing and piercing eyes that enchants me. I must say that those years have strengthened my knowledge of the fashion world. Being involved in such lifestyle has created a natural eagerness to read and learn about designers. Now, I am able to look at an item and name the designer. After walking runways and taking fabulous pictures my liking for fashion began to get bigger and now I’m in love. Some of my favorites for this season are booties with a hint of details, platform sandals, cross-body bags, boyfriend denim and shift dresses. I also love blue, nude and army green palettes.

I am very excited for my first semester as a CollegeFashionista Style Guru. I hope to inspire future Fashionistas/os with my articles about those who fascinate me. Lets make this a stylish and RAD semester.
