STYLE GURU BIO: Sarika Patel

Hi Fashionistas and Fashionistos! I’m Sarika and I am beyond excited to join the CollegeFashionista team as a Style Guru. I am going into my second year at the University of South Florida with a major in International Business. This internship is such a great opportunity that I have luckily come across because it allows me to share with you all the fashion and beauty trends that catch my eye around campus!

I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and love each day the city brings me. I’m glad I decided to stay here for college, close to my pillars that keep me going everyday. Entering college has thrown a whirlwind of new things at me, but I’ve withheld it all with my family, close friends, chai tea and latest copy of Vogue by my side.

My world has been engulfed in fashion since I was a kid. I remember dressing myself, or trying to at least, for my first day of preschool in a floral sundress and Velcro strap sneakers (not my best look). When I wasn’t the model, I’d be the stylist for all my dolls and even my mom…when she knew no one was going to see her in stripes and polkadots. I like to see myself as a creative soul due to my eye for style and my passion for art. I have been painting and sketching since I was a toddler and with no surprise, it has typically been pieces related to fashion. Along with my creative side, however, I have a logical mind…hence the business major. I hope to break into the corporate side of fashion industry with these qualities.

With new classes comes new faces and new fashion trends for this summer semester. I’m eager to see which trends continue from last summer and those transitioning from this spring and which will fade away like the gauchos of sixth grade. Right now, I love any put together look. I tend to choose dark colors but will opt for the occasional white top or periwinkle dress, especially for the summer. My style usually reflects Olivia Palermo or Negin Mirsalehi: simplistic and feminine looks that change like Florida’s bipolar weather. I like to be as chic as possible without leaving the minimalist realm. Here I’m wearing a cutout embroidered white top, black skinnies and tie-up heels inspired by the Aquazzura collection. For accessories, my go-tos are simple gold midi rings and a Cartier LOVE bracelet.

As the great Karl Lagerfeld once said, “I am a fashion person, and fashion is not only about clothes—it’s about all kinds of change.”

Keep up with my posts this semester every Friday to follow the trends on my campus.
