STYLE GURU BIO: Sarah Madaus

Hey Fashionistas/os! I’m Sarah Madaus, a sophomore studying journalism and business at Temple University. My dream is to work for a fitness, lifestyle, and/or fashion magazine. I’m new to CollegeFashionista but not new to fashion, so I’m incredibly excited to share my style as well as awesome on-campus style with all of you!

When I’m not dressing to impress, I’m probably flailing myself out of bed and throwing sweats on five minutes before I have to leave for class. Hey, I can’t look fabulous all the time. Outside of the classroom, you can usually find me doing HIIT at the gym, munching on stir-fry at Honeygrow, speed walking through campus because I’m always on a mission, or hanging out in my apartment. I’m passionate about exercise and health, so I tend to splurge when I’m shopping for workout gear—thank God athleisure is in. When I’m not wearing workout attire, I love neutral pieces and dressing them up with colorful accessories. I like to spend more money on timeless pieces like a pair of leather boots, a denim jacket, or a basic black purse, rather than spending less on trendy pieces that will likely go out of style in a season or two.

I’m introverted and it takes a bit for my outgoing, bubbly personality to show when I’m talking to new people. I’ve always lived by this quote from Rachel Zoe: “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” I express my personality through my style and I have so much fun with it.

This outfit features one of my favorite winter accessories: the tartan scarf. I’m almost always wearing a fluffy blanket scarf during the cold months, because they’re so stylish and warm. I made this one the statement of my outfit. I paired it with a gray and white herringbone coat because it adds a bit of flair to an otherwise basic outfit. Underneath, I’m wearing a summery gray T-shirt dress that I’ve used as a transition piece as we head into the winter season. I’ve paired this look with tights and black over-the-knee suede boots with a chunky heel. These boots can turn any outfit into a sexy look for day or night. To finish off my look, I decided to slide on some gold rings that I purchased at yard sales, thrift shops, and boutiques in Philadelphia.

I’m so excited for you to follow along with me through my fashion journey this semester.
