STYLE GURU BIO: Sarah-Jane Long

Hi guys! I’m Sarah-Jane Long, or S-J for short. I am currently a sophomore at the University of South Carolina and am majoring in retail and fashion merchandising. I’m so excited to share my love for fashion and photography with you guys this semester as a Style Guru.

Fashion is my favorite method of self-expression. It’s the way I let people know who I am without saying a word. I believe that an individual’s style should be bound by no limits and my wardrobe is no exception. My style has no shortage of variety and I am constantly mixing it up to maintain a fun and fresh vibe. You can find me rocking an outfit that’s a blend of boho, urban and trendy pieces.

One of my favorite things to do is recycle or re-invent clothes. If anything in my closet is beginning to feel outdated, the brainstorming begins on ways I can take it apart, cut or get crafty with it to create something new and relevant that I can wear. I’m also a regular customer at any local thrift store, shopping for pieces that can be re-worked and re-invented as well. It’s a fun and easy way to save money—a win-win situation every time.

For my look, I went with a boho-chic vibe. I paired a neutral top from 12th Tribe with simple black skinnies and booties to let the shirt’s intricate beading do most of the talking. I threw on my favorite shaggy coat from Free People, which keeps me feeling cozy and fashionable on a colder day. Choosing simple pieces for the waist down allowed stand-out pieces on top to do most of the talking without making this look feel overdone. To glam it up a little further I added a beaded clutch handbag and finished the look off with a mix of silver and black jewelry to tie it all together.
