My name is Sarah Bierman, and I am currently a junior attending Elon University in North Carolina. This is my first semester as a Style Guru for CollegeFashionista and I couldn’t be more excited to start writing for the STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK column!
While I attend school in North Carolina, I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts. This geographical difference is definitely reflected in my closet. My style ranges from the classic New England look to edgy city fashion to Southern prep, and all of these looks are integrated into my everyday outfits. My outfits can range drastically from a cute sundress with cowboy boots, to high-waisted shorts with a leather jacket, to a flowy maxi skirt with a crop top. Whatever I wake up feeling that day is usually reflected in my outfit, truly creating my own personal style. As for accessories, I can’t get enough of chunky, colorful statement necklaces and bright handbags. Also, I’m obsessed with all kinds of boots – from booties to Western style to over the knee.
The most important part of my style comes from this confession: my favorite color is black. I think there is no other color that can make you look sophisticated, chic, confident and flattering all at the same time like the way that black can. It’s pretty much a guarantee that you will see me wearing at least one black item in my outfit every single day, so my closet is stocked with black staple pieces that can be incorporated into almost every style. Plus, it goes with everything. My friends will always make fun of me for wearing too much black, but no color will ever be the new black!
While most of my fashion inspiration comes from celebrities like Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Lauren Conrad, and Kendall Jenner, I also draw trends from those around me. While Elon, North Carolina certainly isn’t the fashion capital of the world, the diversity of people from all over the country brings together all different styles and looks that I can’t wait to begin reporting about. I know this semester will be a good one and I am so lucky to have this opportunity!
