As a girl who was born in the border of Mexico, I have learned to distinguish the difference of cultures among people—not only by the way they dress, but also by the way they express themselves.
My parents told me how girly and outgoing I’ve been since I was little; I was always choosing my own outfits when shopping with mom and doing my own hair. I’ve also liked going to school to learn different subjects, especially anything art related like painting, piano and of course, ballet, which I still do when time allows.
I’ve always enjoyed watching beauty pageants and fashion runway shows. Later on, I discovered how everything was beyond that. It was the movement of the clothes, the beauty of the hairdos and makeup, the clicking of the heels with the floor—everything to create a story behind the perfect scenario. These made me realize I wanted to be part of it.
After graduating from high school, I came to the United States for college and it was the best decision of my life. Here I started to develop more my passion for styling. I’m a senior at the University of Texas Pan-American with an Advertising and Public Relations major and Spanish and Art minors. I would love to work in the fashion industry; I consider fashion to be a powerful way of expression and it is impressive how it changes with time and the different ways that people see it. It is magical the way everything comes together to create another era.
I’m very chic; my style is romantic, combined with edgy accessories. I love puffy shorts and sleeves, high-waisted bottoms, pastel colors and anything with bows. I’m also obsessed with statement necklaces. I like combining a simple white T-shirt with a big necklace to see the dramatic change. It’s about the fun fact of learning what your style is and making it work for any occasion. In my free time I like reading fashion books, like Fashion Bible and The Truth About Style, and magazines, like Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar, to see what trends are coming, as well as designer inspirations. I also like to write my personal thoughts about the styles I see everyday and mix-and-match people’s wardrobes.
I do believe that writing STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK will help me a lot, not only for my career, but also to meet more people and express myself. I can’t see myself doing anything else outside of the fashion industry. I want to persuade people and show them the variety of stylish personalities we have here. Feel free to follow me and keep in touch for the latest fashion advice!
