What’s up fellow trendsetters! My name is Sam Swantek, and I am enthralled to be reporting your STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK for the upcoming semester. My passion and zeal for writing has been clear cut throughout the course of my education. I am a freshman at Flagler College in picturesque St. Augustine, Florida, and am pursuing a Communications major and a double minor in Marketing and Graphic Design. However, my current fervor for fashion trends is a far cry from my younger days of worn-out jean cut-offs and Chuck Taylors. The simplicity of Florida summers paired with the (often) unbearable heat is a challenging feat for inspiring Fashionistas. Yet my ability to uncover budding trends coupled with my knack for perfect pairings are what I feel provides me as an ideal Style Guru.
I enjoy my money where I can see it; hanging in my closet! Naturally as a college student I was in desperate need of a job to balance my late night chicken and waffles fetish (it’s a Southern thing,) and my increasingly problematic shopaholism. It was then that I figured what better place to acquire one than in the retail industry. I am employed at J.Crew, which essentially means that if you are desperate to uncover the secret of crisply layering stripes and chambray, I am your go-to-girl. However, when I am off the clock I enjoy incorporating a bohemian flare into my otherwise preppy persona. Here I am wearing a classic plaid shirtdress and distressed cognac riding boots. To make it less formal and more comfortable, I have added gray knee high socks and an oversized chunky wool vest. This contrast of finished classics juxtaposed with laid back femininity is my unique twist on the traditional charm of the South.
Among the list of my favorite designers, Charlotte Ronson takes the gold. My outfit is inspired by her fall 2012 line; a seamless combination of flowy bohemian fabrics paired with thick patterned sweaters, which delivers a vibe of effortless polish. When it comes to accessorizing, my unhealthy obsession with kate spade jewelry is evident among my clatter of wrist candy and often by the handles over my shoulder. Her whimsical hues and quirky sayings add an element that should be present in all extra adornments; fun.
Personal style means much more to me than dressing differently than your peers. It entails originality and fearlessness as well as the willingness to stray from fashion norms. I cannot wait to provide you all with my advice on the latest fashion trends, and my greatest hope is that some of my reports may inspire you to incorporate a new zest into your wardrobe.
