STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Ruckh

Hey everyone! My name is Samantha Ruckh, and I am a senior fashion merchandising major at Kent State University also obtaining a marketing minor.

Growing up in a small town right outside of Columbus, I was always intrigued with the fast-paced lifestyle of being in a city, along with the amazing fashion that emerges from them. Even though Ohio isn’t the first place people think of when they hear the words “high fashion,” I was determined to get into the industry some way, and Kent State was that place that would help me do just that. When going on my college tour of the campus, I got a little nostalgic and had a flashback of the moment in my life that led me to where I am today. I can literally remember it like it was yesterday—I was always dressing up with my girlfriends, putting on our mothers stilettos and lipstick while taking strolls around the neighborhood and pretending we were in New York City meeting others for brunch. One day, a photographer for the local newspaper asked to take our picture because we looked “cute” and “fun.” My best friend and I were eight years old when this happened, and I still have the newspaper clipping from that wonderful Sunday afternoon. From that moment on, I knew fashion was in my blood.

Even though I am a fashion major, I almost considered going to culinary school. I am a serious foodie and have always loved different cuisines, but I slowly found out that it is harder to cook unique and interesting food rather than just eating it. When it comes to fashion, I don’t have a specific style that I would categorize myself with because my mind wanders so often, but I would say that pure minimalism with an athleisure feel is the direction I tend to vibe more toward. Ever since living in New York City, I’m captivated by street style and model off duty looks and push my wardrobe to be just as chic. Effortlessness in fashion is what I find the most beautiful.

With my college career ending and just now discovering this amazing internship opportunity, you could say I am a little upset that I will only be getting to do this for one semester. But I am going to try to make this experience fun and exciting for not only myself, but you guys as well. I will be sure to create fun and entertaining posts while also making sure that I stick to who I am as a Fashionista and throwing my own flare into looks and points of view.
