STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Gauchier

Hello fellow Fashionista/os! My name is Samantha Gauchier and I am a junior at the New York Institute of Technology majoring in Communication Arts. Previously, I was interning for Seventeen magazine’s website as a web editorial intern. I was interesting in working with CollegeFashionista because Seventeen is always featuring posts from Style Gurus who share their posts and outfits for them. I found myself being so inspired to try different trends and excited to read more about them!

As for a little more about myself, I was born and raised in New York City and come from a Haitian and French background. I have always loved the atmosphere of the city, the busy streets, the fast paced lifestyle and the people. I was determined to make this city a part of my future. After high school, I knew that my school had to be right in the middle of all of this-and it is! Every time I look outside my classroom window, I see people crowding the city’s streets and side walks and I am always filled with satisfaction. It is a beautiful scene and I would not have it any other way.

I have dreams of becoming both a magazine editor and screenwriter. Even as a child I was always indecisive and could never decide on one thing, hence why my life lacks “eithers” or “ors” and only contains lots of “ands.” When I am not writing screen plays, I am editing videos! Editing is personal hobby that I would like to present on my YouTube channel this summer. Cross your fingers!

My love for fashion stemmed from my mother who works as a nurse and is her own personal seamstress. Every summer she designs clothing for herself, family and friends. She has always had a love for fabrics and patterns since she was a little girl. She would always tell me stories of how she couldn’t afford to buy her own clothing for different occasions, such as back to school season, so she would make her own. Since watching her design clothing and manipulate fabrics to her own liking, I have acquired a love for fashion, trends and the uniqueness of one’s personal style.

This summer I want to be me. I know this sounds so generic, but I want to do things that reflect who I am as an individual. I wanted to shave my head (and I did) and wear clothing that is not conventional, but is still eye-catching (I did that to). I want to build my brand and my portfolio and tell the world, “hey, this chick has LOTS of potential.” CollegeFashionista has granted me the opportunity of being a Style Guru and I’m excited to roam New York City’s street and find lots of chicks, male or female, with great potential.
