STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Durham

Hey everybody, my name is Samantha but everyone knows me as Sam. I am a junior studying sociology at the University of North Carolina Wilmington which is one of the prettiest places on the planet. Although I am not studying fashion, I still have a love for looking fabulous everyday. This is my first semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I am super excited to get started. Fashion is one of my many interests, but I am also a photographer, writer, and elephant enthusiast.

My go-to for anything about fashion is always stay true to you! If you don’t like the fad, then don’t go for it. However, it never hurts to be a little risky in your style just make sure it represents who you are. I would not classify myself under any one type of style. I am into all sorts of looks and styles. My advice is to test your limits. Wear what makes you feel confident and beautiful. Similar to how one word can’t completely define you, one style shouldn’t either. Indulge yourself in all the different looks and trends that make you look in the mirror and say, “I look fabulous.”

I always recommend H&M and Forever 21, especially for us college students. You can find just about anything for a relatively cheaper price. You don’t have to buy expensive brands to look high dollar. If you are looking to splurge on jewelry though, I send my friends to any of Candice Pool Neistat’s jewelry lines; she is the owner of Finn Jewelry, Minor Obsessions, and her newest line, Billy. Not only is she a wicked cool, down-to-earth woman but she also makes some amazing jewelry. She keeps it simple but glamorous simultaneously. She makes the kind of jewelry you can wear on a night out or for a casual day in the library. I recommend you check her out.

The outfit I’m rocking here is a pretty everyday look for me. I am a huge fan of big, comfy sweaters. Something I think always looks fashionable is basic colors such as white, black, or gray with a pop of color. For my look, I grabbed a basic white V-neck and wrapped myself up in an oversized gray sweater. However, I think my favorite two pieces of this look are the pops of color you see in my red loafers and blue purse. They definitely liven up this everyday style.

I hope this look is something you’ll try out. It’s comfy and cute all rolled into one. I look forward to getting to know everyone this semester. Don’t forget to check out my social media accounts and of course chat with me! I promise I won’t bite.
