STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Barbato

Hey, Fashionistas! My name is Sam and I am a junior at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista and I could not be more excited to be a part of the magic! I am a communications major with a focus in human communication and public relations. What’s cool about a human focus is that I get to study verbal and nonverbal cues. Some of these nonverbal cues include clothing and fashion.

I have always had a passion for fashion, but it really took off in high school. I went to a private high school where we wore uniforms throughout the year. On occasion, we had dress down days where we could wear whatever we wanted, so I made sure to make those days count. Due to this, I’ve always been used to making an effort to put my best foot forward with my fashion.

The only word I can think of to describe my style is versatile. One day I’m all about fringe and neutral colors, maybe ruffles and pastels, and the next day it’s all about athleisure (by the way I’m a member of my school’s Division I tennis team). However, a go-to outfit for me includes some edge. I love adding a touch of black and leather to things you may not expect. Some things most abundantly found in my closet include leather jackets, black booties, chokers, and just about anything with studs and zippers.

You can see my incorporation of some of these things in this outfit. I’m wearing a Saint Tropez cowl neck sweater paired with a basic leather jacket on top. To go with these, my favorite pair of booties. Both the jacket and the booties are adorned with zipper detail. This combo is a favorite of mine because of its warmth and flexibility. It can be worn to class, out and about the town, or when going out at night.

Can’t wait to share some of my favorite fashion this semester! Let’s make it rad!
