STYLE GURU BIO: Samantha Adoptante

Hey everyone! My name is Sam, and I’m a sophomore communication major specializing in PR at Rutgers University. This is my first semester with CollegeFashionista, and I cannot be more thrilled! I have always had a passion for writing, photography, and fashion, and while my style was not always up to speed with this, I have finally grasped the idea that it is not about the clothes that you wear but how they make you feel.

My style has certainly been through a lot, and when I mean a lot, I mean I lived in sleeveless turtlenecks, velvet tracksuits, turtlenecks paired with sweatpants (thanks a lot mom), and did I mention turtlenecks? All in all, you can definitely say I was nowhere near claiming the Fashionista title. Growing up, I was surrounded by all boys, so my wardrobe suffered; where you might expect cute dresses and tops were basketball shorts and T-shirts that were baggy enough to wear as dresses.

When I started high school, I started a fashion blog with my best friends, and being able to work with different companies and connect with other bloggers truly gave me the push to find my own sense of style. I have come a long way from the velvet tracksuits and basketball shorts, but one thing that has remained is my attraction to comfort.

Three words that are representative of my style would be minimalistic, neutrals, and layering. The chunky turtlenecks, baggy T-shirts, and basketball shorts still reside in the depths of my closet, but what I love most in my outfits are neutrality and simplicity. For this look, these two aspects are highlighted. New Jersey winters can be quite harsh, so having a trusty, structured coat is a necessity. The addition of a coat like this, especially with its length, can dress up any outfit! Paired with a classy tunic tucked into some high-waisted jeans and my favorite Chelsea boots, this outfit offers comfort, warmth, and sophistication all in one!

My goal for 2017 is to be more adventurous and experimental when it comes to my style. Straying away from neutrals will be quite the struggle, but I am so excited to be inspired and hopefully inspire others with the discoveries and new fashion, beauty, and lifestyle obsessions I pick up along the way!
