STYLE GURU BIO: Sally Phelps

Hi there, Fashionistas! My name is Sally Phelps and I’m a sophomore at Syracuse University double majoring in Marketing and Retail Management. I’m so excited that I was given the opportunity to write for College Fashionista this semester. Writing has been a passion of mine my whole life and through CollegeFashionista, I hope to integrate my appreciation for writing with my passion for fashion!

Since the age of three I’ve been singing, dancing and acting. The performing arts have provided me with a creative outlet through vibrant performances, people and of course, clothing. Also, I grew up less than an hour from New York City. The Big Apple acts as my playground, where I am constantly inspired and impressed by the people and their carefully presented ensembles. Because of this, I can’t remember a time that I didn’t want to be apart of the fashion industry. As my mom likes to gently remind me, “Life is not a fashion show.” But I, of course, disagree. Life is a fashion show and you’re doing the Naomi Campbell walk down the runway. Except that it’s not the Versace show, but your own world. You have to dress the part.

My personal style has no label. Some days I love dressing super girly, complete with fur vests, long flowy hemlines and dainty jewelry. Other days you can see me walking the streets in an all black outfit, complete with a great pair of boots and a bedazzled statement necklace. I am a huge fan of neutrals, which you can see in my above look, which I love to mix with trendy, affordable pieces to give myself endless options. My style has been described as both preppy and edgy, sophisticated but boho-chic and overall classic, but personally, I believe that my style represents myself. What I’ve learned through my love of fashion is that the opportunities are endless; so why not experiment a little?

Today, I am wearing one of my new favorite trends: the boyfriend jean accented with a bold wedge. This look pairs well with an oversized two-tone T-shirt in a neutral color. This shirt really exemplifies the layered look, which is super on trend for the fall season. I dressed the look up with a bold statement necklace, my favorite leather wrap bracelet, a chunky minimalistic watch and my David Yurman jewelry. For shoes I opted for a dark wedge sandal with some strappy detailing. I tied the look together with minimal makeup and an every-day hairstyle. Add a stand out clutch in a bold color or print to take this look from day to night.

I hope that you had a rad summer and are excited for the fun posts coming your way filled with lots of fall fashion inspiration. I can’t wait to share my articles with you!
