STYLE GURU BIO: Ruchika Karnani

January 8th, 2016 at 2:00am

Hello, fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name’s Ruchika Karnani, and I’m currently in my junior year at McMaster University pursuing a major in Sociological Studies. Academically, I’ve always been enticed by the disciplines of psychology, philosophy and world religions, and one day, I aspire to have a career that involves all of the above.

Outside of school, my interest in the performing arts takes up a lot of my time. I’ve been professionally and competitively dancing since the age of six, and over the years, my passions for modeling and singing have also taken their course. My fascination for performing eventually lead me to be a finalist in 2015’s Miss World Canada pageant, which incorporated a little bit of everything I love, and it was a surreal experience to be a part of that platform. Since then, I’ve been a part of various fashion shows, photoshoots and music videos, and as someone who loves being behind the camera, it’s refreshing to be on the other side!

Overall, I’m an individual who cherishes every opportunity that allows me to channel my inner creativity, especially when it comes to beauty and fashion. I’ve always had an obsession with makeup, and over the years, I’ve learned lots of tips and tricks (God bless those YouTube tutorials!) that have encouraged me to experiment and try new things, and the possibilities are endless! In regards to fashion, I love that everyone is capable of making their own rules and defining “style” in the way that he or she wishes—I’ve always been one to advocate for expressing one’s true self, and what’s a better way to do that than creating your own definition of fashion?

If I had to define my style, I’d say it’s monochromatic, minimalistic and fresh. I’m also super inspired by the streets of Toronto, so that sometimes filters its way into my outfits as well. Personally, I believe that fashion should enhance who you are as an individual as opposed to defining your being, which is why I feel like simpler pieces that bring out your inner fierceness are the best kinds of pieces!

All in all, I’m super ecstatic to be a part of the CollegeFashionista team for the upcoming semester, and I look forward to sharing this journey with all of you beautiful people! Keep an eye out for some exciting posts to come in the near future, and until then, be well, be happy, and be you!

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I will see you very soon!
