STYLE GURU BIO: Rose Schaber

Hello, Fashionistas/os! My name is Rose Schaber and currently I’m a junior majoring in English and minoring in Fashion Merchandising at the University of Georgia. I’m so excited to be a part of the Fashionista team! I hope to explore my passion for writing and fashion by being a Style Guru.

My love for fashion can be traced back to my love for design. Much like a paintbrush in a painter’s hand, my sewing machine lets me create pieces of art that are wearable. I love creating everyday and evening wear. As my knowledge of sewing grows, so does my appreciation for garment structure and design. Fashion is cyclical and styles repeats itself throughout history. Knowing how to manipulate looks in a garment will make them appear fresh, fun and updated.

During my younger years, I traveled and moved along the East Coast experiencing the lifestyles that called for specific fashions. I loved experiencing the unique fashions being worn from my home in a sleepy beach town in New Jersey where surfer wear was a must to Florida where Lilly Pulitzer’s bright-colored clothing was the typical. I want to capture the fun street fashion here in Athens and catch a glimpse of their lives too.

Although a small southern town, fashion worn by its citizens are constantly in motion and diverse. Athens has three major neighborhoods: the University of Georgia campus, the downtown scene and Normaltown. In one neighborhood, you can find boho-chic festival outfits and down the street you can find a cute athleisure-inspired outfit that has become so popular among students at UGA. My goal is to capture an all-encompassing range of fashion that is so unique to Athens.

Let’s have a great summer, Fashionistas/os!
