My name is Richa Anand and I am currently completing my second year at California State University, Fullerton. I am majoring in public relations and minoring in business, and hope to eventually become a publicist in the fashion industry. I am so excited to be part of this summer’s fabulous team of Style Gurus!
Born and raised in Orange County, I am a sunshine girl at heart. I believe my style perfectly reflects my lifestyle here in Southern California. During the summer you can bet that I’m wearing sandals 90 percent of the time, along with denim shorts and a flowy top. However, that doesn’t stop me from dressing up at night. I absolutely love shoes and sometimes will form my outfit solely around them. Ever since college came around, I have found myself gravitating less and less towards jeans, and instead opting for a comfortable pair of leggings. Many people don’t believe leggings should be worn as pants, but I firmly believe that they’re the cousin to jeans—a comfier version that can be just as cute! Throw on a cute chiffon top over it and you’ve got yourself my type of outfit. Oh, and don’t forget the earrings and watch. You will never see me step out of my room without a pair of earrings on and my favorite watch!
I tend to gravitate towards neutral colors, because I believe when working with a neutral palette you double the amount of outfit options you normally would have. Nearly everything can mix and match with each other, letting you really get good use out of all your wonderful clothes.
Now I’m not your typical Fashionista, who has been dressing up everything in sight ever since she could remember. Instead, I grew up wearing whatever clothes my mom picked out for me while observing other girl’s outfits at school. When it became time for me to start shopping on my own, I realized what a small budget I had. Therefore, I have never been one to purchase things that are clearly just going to be trends for about a month. Rather, I find myself buying pieces that I know I can wear years down the line.
I think Yves Saint Laurent said it best, “Fashion fades, style is eternal.” Being fashionable does not necessarily mean being stylish, but instead means you are keeping up to date with the trends. I prefer choosing pieces that I know will be timeless, which is why one of my favorite places to shop are vintage and thrift shops! Like they say, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Here’s to an amazing summer filled with sunshine, fashion and fun!
