Hello Fashionistas/os! My name’s Reed Emerson and I’m a sophomore at Northern Arizona University studying Marketing and Economics. I am simply elated to be a CollegeFashionista Style Guru! I attend such a beautiful school that is home to so many students that rock unique and spunky styles and I cannot wait to share that with everyone.
I’ve always had a passion for all things artistic, however I wasn’t blessed with any artistic skills myself, until I found photography and fashion. I got lucky and the two fit perfectly hand in hand. Photography is really what initially sparked my love of fashion. At a young age I would play dress up with my friends and take pictures of them. This hobby continued into my teen years where I could actually purchase my own clothes and experiment with trends. Since then, I have found it so exhilarating to style outfits and grow within my own fashion identity as well as help others do the same.
I would describe my personal style as an edgy feminine look. I grew up in Portland, Oregon so I’ve witnessed a lot of organic street wear which sparked my love of boots, (vegan) leather and oversized sweaters. I’m also a big fan of leggings, oxford shoes, jumpsuits and fitted jackets. I stay heavily updated on celebrity style icons like Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Richie and Lily Collins. I adore Marc Jacobs, Zuhair Murad and, of course, Chanel. Unfortunately, these beautiful designers are out of my budget so my shopping mostly happens at Nordstrom, Target or small boutiques.
This semester I am writing the FASHIONISTA/O SPOTLIGHT column. I’m looking for individuals who really make a statement! I find it so brave and empowering to see people take chances with trends and go fearlessly into fashion. Those are the people that catch my eye. As a photographer and fashion junky I am always on the lookout for trendy individuals that can inspire a new outlook on fashion. I am constantly running into Fashionistas/os in Flagstaff that have such a strong individual style it’s hard to ignore, those are the people I want to introduce CollegeFashionista to. See who I find on campus and stayed tuned for my column!
