Hey Fashionista/os! I’m Reed Emerson and I am a junior at Northern Arizona University. I am studying Merchandising and Public Relations and am so excited for this fall semester. I spent this past summer working at a boutique in Portland, Oregon. I fell in love with the buying aspect of fashion retail and can’t wait to learn more about it in my merchandising classes this fall. I am thrilled to say that this is my third semester writing for CollegeFashionista and I have adored every second of it!
I am coming into my junior year with a completely new perspective on my future. Prior to becoming a Style Guru, I had no idea what exactly I wanted to do, besides work in the fashion industry. With two semesters under my belt, I am confident that I want to pursue a career in fashion photojournalism. I have always had a heart for photography and throwing my passion for fashion into the mix only makes sense. Thanks to CollegeFashionista, I now know I have great enthusiasm for a career in writing as well!
This summer, I went on hikes, shopped in downtown Portland and did plenty of photo shoots. I found some great new styles and trends throughout my summer journey in Oregon. Living in Nike land, I have absolutely fallen in love with the trend of mixing oversized sweaters and leggings with sportswear sneakers. This look creates such a fun juxtaposition of styles. The sweater dresses up the outfit while the sneakers make you appear fun and sporty.
On top of sneakers and sweaters, I have really tried to push myself out of my usual comfort zone. This semester I am making it an effort to wear what I want no matter what I think people might say. I have a horrible habit of overanalyzing my outfits and refusing to wear something just because other people may not like it. This semester is all about going fearlessly into fashion because the best accessory you can have is your confidence.
Coming back to Flagstaff, Arizona I can’t wait to explore what styles everyone else has picked up this summer and share them with you all. CollegeFashionista has opened so many doors for me and has introduced me to so many fierce Fashionista/os on campus!
