STYLE GURU BIO: Raquel Wilson

June 3rd, 2016 at 2:00am

My name is Raquel and I attend the College of William & Mary! I am from Virginia and enjoy reading, drinking coffee and running. Above all, fashion has been an integral part of my life, inspiring the way I dress, what I read and how I express myself.

I am often inspired by designers from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Coco Chanel and Marc Jacobs to say the least. These designers make classic pieces that can easily be dressed-up or down. I enjoy this flexibility and find it easy to add my own flare with their pieces. I enjoy trying my own hand at styling outfits. Some staple pieces that you can find me wearing are simple rings and necklaces, cardigans and ripped jeans.

Currently, I am reading Diane Von Furstenberg’s The Woman I Wanted To Be and am in love with the way she describes the intersection between women and fashion. Reading books from style influencers such as her inspire my own self development, but remind me how style is such an impactful part of growing. I have watched my own personal style change as I grow both physically and spiritually. The changes make me excited to become the woman I would like to be one day and remind me to keep it cute!

As Karl Lagerfeld once said, “Fashion is a language that creates itself in clothes to interpret reality.” I too like to think of fashion as a language. I want my style to speak for me and I’d like for it to express that I am kind, passionate about female empowerment and a lover of detail. Having the pleasure to live in South Africa, I was able to understand the language of fashion even more. Traveling has allowed me to see how fashion effects both nationwide style and the individual style of a country’s population. Walking down the street of any country is a fashion show in it’s own. My hope is to travel the world and document the unique fashion statements I see along the way.

I am looking forward to seeing how style is expressed by the Fashionistas around me and can’t wait to share them with you!
