STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Stevenson

Hey Fashionistas!

My name is Rachel Stevenson, and I am a junior public relations major at Kent State University with a minor in both business and marketing. This is my first semester at CollegeFashionista, and I am beyond excited to share my love for writing, photography and fashion with you all! I am super involved on campus and like to keep busy by holding several leadership positions in Kent State Sorority and Fraternity Life, teaching orientation classes for first-year students, working part-time in the Advancement Events department and focusing on my major. My other interests include traveling, and this summer I had the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy! Being surrounded by fashion inspiration motivated me to apply to be a CollegeFashionista Style Guru.

Fashion is the perfect way to exercise self-expression, and there is power in appearance. A good outfit is worth a thousand words so I always try to display my own sense of style and vibrant personality through every outfit choice. I would describe my personal style as versatile, comfy chic and practical. Being as involved as I am in campus life, I often dress for comfort knowing I have a busy day ahead of me, and I believe the key to comfort lies in the jeans you wear. I am a big proponent of leggings, don’t get me wrong, but for a fashion forward girl on the go, comfortable denim with a lot of stretch is a wardrobe must. My favorite brand of denim is KanCan jeans. I have worked at Buckle for the past three years and discovering these jeans has completely changed the meaning of comfy casual for many of my coworkers and guests. Personally, I prefer high-rise denim to tie in my personal style, but whenever I am wearing KanCan jeans, I can find confidence in comfort and let my personal style shine. Paired with my favorite floral tank from Free People this outfit is fun and practical for a long day on the go, but it would not be complete without the perfect accessories and shoes. My go-to accessory for fall is the infamous floppy hat. It can give almost any outfit the right amount of edge and mystery, and is also a great way to hide unruly locks. The key, however, to tying this outfit together is a pair of cute and comfortable heels or wedges. Every girl needs a pair of heels they can throw on with just about any outfit and wear just about anywhere. My go-to heel is this strappy suede sandal from Rag & Co. It’s chunky heel partnered with four lace straps make for a shoe that combines comfort and fashion so you can walk through everyday life like its your own personal runway.
