STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Mendelson

Hey, ya’ll! My name is Rachel Mendelson and I am a senior at James Madison University. I am studying journalism and creative writing, and I can’t wait to share the style of JMU with all you Fashionistas and Fashionistos during my last semester there!

My heart belongs to the beach. If I could sit on the beach every day, that’s what I would do. However, since I can’t do that, I like to play the guitar, craft with my friends and eat all kinds of good food.

My mom calls my style bohemian-chic, but I really like a little bit of everything. Loose-fitting, flowy shirts hang in my closet next to patterned dresses and infinity scarves. My jewelry is a mixture of styles, as well, and I firmly believe that there is no thing as having too much jewelry. I love layers of jewelry: rings, bracelets and necklaces. If you can stack it, I love it. The more bling, the better.

My look is easy to throw on in a few minutes and will still look like you put a little more time into your outfit. I love outfits like that. Any dress works, but I wore a loose, black dress, over-the-knee gray socks (that I pulled below my knee) and riding boots for this look. The jewelry is my favorite part; like I said, I love sparkly things. I stacked my rings and threw on my favorite watch, which always pulls an outfit together. Finally, I put on a long necklace, which I love wearing with loose-fitting clothing. Throw on tights instead of socks and slide into some booties, and you’ve got yourself a dressier version of this look.

I am so excited to bring you the fashions of JMU each month. Stay tuned!
