STYLE GURU BIO: Rachel Halpin

Hello hello! My name is Rachel Halpin. I’m currently a sophomore at Mercyhurst University, and I’m majoring in fashion merchandising with a minor in sociology. This is my second semester writing for CollegeFashionista, so needless to say I’m a pretty lucky gal. I just finished my freshman year and boy did it fly by. I had never anticipated how much my life could change simply after one year of college. There’s no doubt I enjoyed each and every minute of this past year and I look forward to the three years to come.

As for my style, it’s safe to say that I draw my inspiration from a plethora of sources. I love the power of pop culture. Its ability to draw people together and unite them under a common realm is just eye opening. I am very passionate about my own personal style. I truly believe that what we wear is the best reflection of who we are, which is why I like to channel my own personality through my outfits. I am always mindful of adding my own personal touch to what I am wearing.

Aside from my love for a great outfit, I enjoy many other aspects of what fashion has to offer. Fashion is a form of art and just like art, fashion is original and innovative. With that being said, I thoroughly enjoy seeing how other individuals interpret “fashion.” I like to see how fashion melds with their world. This is one of the major reasons why I love social media as much as I do. I can spend countless hours scrolling through Instagram, refreshing the page time and time again. There’s always that one time when something catches my eye and leads me on a journey to channel my own creative processes. I especially enjoy following designers, models and people just like you and I! It just goes to show that you don’t need to be famous in order to be an inspiration.

Since I’m constantly searching the web for the latest trends and crazes my style usually reflects what’s in now. However, I’m always mindful to add my own personal touch to whatever I’m sporting. Here, I am sporting a simple, yet trendy floral dress. The vibrancy of the pinks against the darkness of the blues provides a nice contrast. As for accessorizing, that’s where I added my own touch. The black suede bootie sandals help tap into my edgier side, while the mirrored sunglasses add a playful essence that works well with the colors in the dress.

My style represents who I am. It’s contemporary, classic and a tad bit edgy. It’s a true reflection of myself. So with that being said, don’t be afraid to channel your personality through fashion. Embrace who you are and make yourself stand out in whatever you wear.

I can’t wait for a RAD summer! I look forward to sharing my fashion journey and experiences with many other Fashionistas/os!
