STYLE GURU BIO: Rachael Mayrose

Hey there Fashionistas/os! My name is Rachael Mayrose and I am a sophomore at Northeastern University with a dual major in Marketing and Economics and a minor in Italian. This is my second semester with CollegeFashionista, and I am psyched to share my fashion finds with all of you!

I am from lovely Long Island, New York—home of amazing beaches, beautiful vineyards and the world’s best bagels. Although I have been born and raised on Long Island, my style is very urban, so I am ecstatic to be attending a school in the city of Boston.

I am a firm believer that you can learn a lot about a person from their style. It is style, not eyes, that is the window to the soul. I would describe my look as editorial trendy with a hint of edge. Since leaving high school, I have become a lot more confident and outspoken, and this is definitely reflected in my look.

Classes are starting up again, so I wanted to create a classroom-ready look. Since elementary school, picking out the perfect first day of school outfit has been very important to me. In my opinion, your first outfit can set the tone for the entire school year.

My goal with the ensemble was to stand out, without being overdressed. I started with a basic pair of denim shorts from New York & Company. I adore these shorts because they are comfy and flatter almost every body shape. Essentially, they’re the shorts version of the jeans from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

I paired these shorts with a simple white scoop neck shirt because the star of the show is my plaid T-shirt dress. This piece was my favorite find this summer. It is versatile and fierce. I am in love with it. For my shoes, I chose a pair of black booties. I used to avoid heels at all costs; I was afraid to embrace my height. Now, I stand tall and proud.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know a bit about me and my style. I can’t wait to spend this semester with all of you!
