STYLE GURU BIO: Qayla Chism

Hello my fellow Fashionistas and Fashionistos! My name is Qayla Chism, and as much as you may be tempted to pronounce that as “Qway-la” you should know there is no Quay, Qwa, Qau or a single “u” sound in my name at all. However I always love hearing how creative people get when trying to guess how to say it, so please humor and tell me what first came to mind when you saw it! Now that we’ve gotten the introductions out of the way, I can tell you guys some other stuff about me and what I’m doing here at CollegeFashionista, that includes the cool, the weird and all things good about Qayla Chism.

I’m originally from Pennsylvania but I attend college in New York City (yes I’m that girl, holding it down for Pennsylvania east to west all the way in the Big Apple). This fall I will be starting my junior year at Pace University, I’m a double major in Arts and Entertainment Management and Entrepreneurship with a double minor in Spanish and Pre-Law. This is my second semester as a Style Guru and I’m also interning in the marketing department of CollegeFashionista but when I’m not at school, working or tending to internship duties, I’m wandering around the city gazing over everyday fashion.

I try to appreciate fashion from all walks of life, if I didn’t I’d have no place trying to break down the doors of the fashion styling world. My only terms once I’m in, is that you wear your clothes, don’t let your clothes wear you. If I had to label my particular taste and style fall somewhere between Jada Pinkett-Smith in the ’90s and Jenny from the block J.Lo. And let me just say, oversized clothes making a comeback was probably one of the best things that happened in 2015.

In my outfit I’m sporting my latest obsession, oversized boyfriend jeans with a sports bra layered with a to-die-for olive green tank top. Recently I’ve found happiness in pairing simplicity with a pair of heels. It screams I’m laid back but I’m also here to make a statement. I like to live by the words, “Ride the edge, don’t fall over,” but I stepped way out of my comfort zone with this one. It just so happened that my brief-styled undergarments had a thick band at the top that I couldn’t keep to myself, so I pulled my Levi’s down a bit and bared it to the world, just a little anyways. I finished my look by accessorizing with my everyday jewelry, one silver necklace and one gold necklace.

My articles go live every 15th of the month, be sure to keep up here and more with me on my social media handles!
