STYLE GURU BIO: Olivia Winkelman

Ciao everyone! My name is Olivia and I am a Fashion Design major at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. I am originally from New Jersey, but moving here and studying fashion have always been a dream of mine. Fashion was always mesmerizing to me as a little girl and I loved dressing up in posh, luxurious clothing. I always looked up to my mom who wore lavish furs and beautiful jewelry. She taught me some of my “fashion quotes to live by” that I still use today, such as: “If you got it, flaunt it!”

Moving to Brooklyn really opened my eyes and forced me to step out of my comfort zone with fashion. I was always, and still am, a huge fan of color, but now I adore black, as well. Darker colors really complement lighter skin tones, such as my own.

My sense of style is constantly developing and maturing. As I entered into college, I started to stray away from styles I wore in high school and went for more mature and sophisticated silhouettes, such as a sleek open back, like the dress I have on, or heels as high as the Empire State Building. I became more daring when I moved to the city and started college because I felt it was the best time to explore and expand my taste.

Going back to the “if you got it, flaunt it”, LBDs are not just for night, people! They can be worn anytime, just as long as they are the right style and cut, like this one. Pair your dress with a great pair of stylish sneakers, like these, some bold jewelry, like my bracelet from BCBGeneration, a great lip color and some…chipped black nail polish? Hey, we are not all perfect!

I am very fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to study fashion in the beautiful city of New York. The cars, the people and the deep, rich history inspire me on a daily basis. Remember Fashionista/os- take risks, be fierce and always remember, “If you got it, flaunt it!”
