STYLE GURU BIO: Olivia Spathakis

Hi, Fashionistas! My name is Olivia Spathakis and I am originally from northern New Jersey. I am currently studying Fashion Design at Marist College. I absolutely love fashion, and getting dressed before class in the morning is one of the many highlights of my day. My parents always say that they knew I was going to be a stylish girl when I grew up because when I was three years old and walking in the city, I stopped dead in my tracks staring at a pair of ballet flats that I knew I absolutely had to have. They have lace trim around them with beautiful ribbon shoelaces; to this day I still have these shoes because they mean so much to me.

My sense of style grew with me as a child for example when I would go to the doctor’s office and they would dress me in one of those blue paper gowns, I would take hair clips and pinch the paper together turning the robe into a fitted halter dress. Pursuing a career in fashion design has been a dream of mine since I entered high school. I took classes to learn how to draw, sew, everything! One of the reasons why I wanted to become a fashion designer is because I love the way just a piece of clothing or an outfit can make a person feel confident. I gain so much inspiration looking at photos of street style for my own personal wardrobe and designs on websites such as CollegeFashionista. My favorite stores to shop at consist of Express, H&M, Brandy Melville and more. Just like having a favorite designer, I can never narrow my favorite stores down to just one.

After being at college for only a few months, I see my style growing and changing everyday. I feel that I start to wear my clothes with more confidence, and my personal style is never pinpointed to just one look. Some days I feel like dressing preppy, other days edgy, sometimes boho, I never know until I experiment with different pieces. My absolute style obsession right now are my black heeled booties. They are perfect for winter and I am only 5’1″ so adding some extra inches are definitely a plus while looking chic at the same time.

While keeping this in mind, I am elated to be a part of the CollegeFashionista Style Guru family and I expect this to be a great and successful semester!
