STYLE GURU BIO: Nikki Sarmer

Hello all! My name is Nikki Sarmer and I study public relations and fashion merchandising at the University of Georgia. When I’m not working or studying, I’m probably binge-watching Gossip Girl despite watching it a million times already. I mean, who doesn’t love a good scandal combined with even better shoes? Blair Waldorf is definitely one of my fictional style crushes, tied with Olivia Pope. Maybe there is a theme going here. My real life fashion inspirations are drawn from Olivia Palermo and Danielle Bernstein of WeWoreWhat. While their styles are almost completely opposite, I am obsessed with Danielle’s cool girl rocker look and Olivia’s effortlessly-chic persona. I would describe my personal style as kate spade meets Yves Saint Laurent. Maybe female Harry Styles meets Kate Middleton.

Unlike most people studying fashion, I hated it growing up. I was a complete and total tomboy. My favorite outfit was a hot pink, bedazzled, BCBGeneration top paired with olive green capris from GapKids and I never wore a shoe that showed my toes. I obviously knew how to rock it, but some might question my methods. I even cried when my dad told me that I had to wear a dress and heels as the flower girl in his wedding. I was a wreck. It wasn’t until I entered high school that I realized I really loved the preppy style. Of course, I begged my mom to buy me a pair of bright yellow Hunter Boot wellies because if that didn’t scream “prep”, then what did? Soon enough, everything I owned was monogrammed and I owned enough statement necklaces to swallow my entire bathroom counter. I fell in love with fashion and I never looked back.

Now, I’ve come a long way from wearing exclusively bright colors and too much jewelry. I have my staple pieces: a silver Michael Kors watch, a crucian hook bracelet and a Pandora ring, but other than that, the only other thing I mix up is layering Bourbon and Bowties bracelets (I might have a slight obsession). My style varies greatly based on the season. In the winter you can catch me exclusively in black skinny jeans and an oversized sweater with my favorite Vince Camuto quilted black leather boots, but in the summer time I’m all about bright colors, Jack Rogers and fun boutique finds. The only exception to this rule is football season: Saturdays between the hedges means red and black from head to toe.
